Outstanding. Then I got to the part with the smartphone on a little tripod - I thought, 'Todd must have all the super photographic equipment.' Which I'm sure you do. The quality and clarity of picture using the phone is amazing. Almost amazing as the wonder of all those stars!
lol, I do in fact have all (okay some/much) of the super photographic equipment. But honestly, it would take a lot more work to set up and process, so I think this probably will be one of those situations where I will continue to just let my pixel phone do most of the work for me.
p.s. I will still take credit for thinking about the scene I wanted to capture, and getting the little mini tripod set up in the right place. Even with my DSLR, my main role would be essentially the same; getting everything all set up correctly, remotely releasing the shutter button, then making sure I don't accidentally bump into it for a couple of minutes. 🤣
These are all absolutely gorgeous… – I particularly love the third one, though!
Sitting under dark skies like these is such a wonderful experience: and you have captured it so well. I am envious of your rocket launch, though (their 600th, I think)!
Thanks Stephen. Yes, that 3rd one came out nice. As we were driving up, we were a little worried that there were still a few clouds around. But in the end, I think they added something to the images they showed up in.
I’ve seen the Space-X launches probably about a dozen time. Still amazes me that we can see it that well when the launch site is over 700 miles away. The one time we had a more close-up view was when it launched while we were in San Diego this past summer.

My vacation house in eastern Washington is out in the middle of nowhere - so no light pollution.
We've had Northern Lights displays that were amazing.
That would almost make the cold worthwhile. 😍
These are spectacular! I can’t wait to try it!
I look forward to seeing yours.
