The Job Interview
B&W 2026 13/365
I would normally only share one image at a time for this B&W picture a day project. But in this case, I think we need all three to tell the full story.
I was sitting in McDonalds while I waited for my car to get an oil change when I noticed a manager put down his drink and laptop, then start arranging chairs on the other side of this table. It was obvious that job interviews are about to happen.
I had my picture of the day idea.
But first I grabbed my big camera and took a picture of his setup. I liked it so much that I decided I need to use three shots.
Here is the image I originally intended to be today’s picture:
I liked it because it not only captured the interview in progress, but also some of the other faces in the background. McD’s is always an interesting place to take pictures, even on a normal day.
The interview appeared to go well for this gentleman, but of course he was told that there were still other people on the list so he should check back tomorrow.
This last shot is a result of trying to be both stealthy and quick. I thought about not including it, but in the end, I think the angle with the manager above the potential employee as they shake hands adds to the narrative.
Your turn:
If you saw a scene like this playing out nearby, would you be obvious or stealthy about taking pictures of it?
Til next time,
Todd

Looking at these three shots, I do think will try as often as I can to use my real camera for this project (although there will be times where the phones are the only/right tool). That first one is very clearly the best (subjectively) picture of the set.
I do like that first one (a lot!); but there’s a dynamism to the last one that really grabs me! What an amazing position to be in, though, to witness such a thing! Wow!
