A story from 2011:
Yesterday my son Justin and I went out practice driving in my truck. We ended up going down a Very country road a few miles from our house. We figured if we drove long enough, we’d run back into the main road.
Not quite ...
But we did end up coming upon about a dozen cows. This is the point where we decided it might be a good idea to turn around, since it was almost dark anyway. Well after Justin executed a nice 3-point turn, we discovered two cows standing in front of us in the road. Justin beeped the horn at them, with the expectation that they’d move off the road. Instead they simply turned around and “Moooo’d” at us.
It was at this point that we noticed more cows, and a bull, coming our way ... so Justin honked again. The cows in front still didn’t move, but the ones behind us were now coming faster. Finally we just went off the road and around the cows ... while trying to stop laughing. Then we had to speed up and get out of there, because the rest of the cows were Still Coming.
Later that night, we had some guys from direct TV over, and as I was telling them the story I learned that when the ranchers around here feed the cows, they usually drive out their in a pickup truck and honk the horn a couple of times before throwing the hay out.
That explains a lot.
On the one hand, I don’t think it would be terribly wise to drive back down that road again. But then my other (not nearly so responsible) hand, really wants to take 3 year old Jaiden with us next time .. and let her honk the horn! 😉
Todd 😎
p.s. we did in fact bring both of my younger daughters out looking for the cows later that week. But unfortunately, this was a one-time fun story.
