Yes, You Can Still Get Real Pseudoephedrine
But probably not a lot all at one time
Did you know that a few years ago and FDA advisory panel determined that most of the “cold and flu” medicine that you find on the shelf walking up and down the aisle at Walmart, CVS or Walgreens doesn’t actually work?
If the main active ingredient is phenylephrine, it’s probably not going to do anything for your stuffy head. Many of us have continued to buy it anyway.
I am embarrassed to say that I was not aware of how relatively easy it still is to get the real stuff. If it contains pseudoephedrine it’s simply moved behind the pharmacy counter.
At the Walmart pharmacy, they just scanned my driver’s license and had me pay for it there at the counter. And here’s the kicker …
This 24 count box cost a little less than the probably ineffective Equate Cold & Flu with phenylephrine that I could have picked up in the regular aisle.
I’m going to write this off to the fact that I really don’t get sick very often.
But in the future, if I have a stuffy head, I’ll take the couple of extra minutes to go to the pharmacy counter to get the real stuff.
Your turn:
What’s something you discovered relatively late in life that is a bit embarrassing you didn’t know it sooner, but it none-the-less useful to know now?
Til next time,
Todd
