Yeah, me neither. š
But it sure is cool when I get to see and photograph these red-eyed āgoth cardinalsā. Itās even better when there are half a dozen hanging out at the little park thatās a five minute walk from my house.
That was the case for me yesterday evening. I had a little more than an hour before sunset. I knew I wanted to take a few pictures, but really didnāt want to drive down to the river or up to the mountains.
So I grabbed my Canon 80D with the big Sigma lens attached, and walked over to Nancy Hakes Park.
I would have been happy enough getting one good shot of a male and a female showing off their red eyes. Capturing this shot of a female with a berry in her mouth was just a bonus.
From a birding perspective these pictures werenāt even the most exciting of the evening. Apparently I didnāt already have the Audubon Warbler on my Life List.
To be fair, Iām pretty sure Iāve seen (and probably even photographed) them before. But this is the first time Iāve documented it.
Then of course, as is often the case when Iām taking bird pictures, someone will pop out and pose (this case a Sayās Phoebe) just as Iām packing up to go home.
Til Next time,

Do you enjoy B&W photography?
