When my kids were little I used to read to them all the time. Of course Dr. Seuss was in the rotation, and like many families, Green Eggs and Ham was one of our favorites.
I would even do the voices when I read it.
Seriously, I think we read this book at least once or twice a week.
Eventually, and it was bound to happen, one of the kids asked:
Hey, I wonder what green eggs and ham tastes like?
Me being the fun, totally accommodating dad who would regularly do silly things like let them put slime on my head
Of course we were going to find out …
Now this is the part of the article where if I was a good marketer, I would offer to reveal the “secret recipe”, but only if you subscribe first.
One minor problem with that plan.
There is no recipe.
Just go dig through your baking cabinet. Find some green food color. Then cook up the ham and eggs as you normally would, adding the food color just as the scrambled eggs start to firm up.
Jas, from the first picture, was already old enough to not be tricked, so I’m pretty sure she helped me with the cooking.
Her younger sisters on the other hand, were initially reluctant to try the “yucky green eggs” and “gross green ham”.
So of course we had to pull the book back out.
It worked!
Everybody enjoyed their green eggs and ham.
Then we moved on to the next adventure.
What sort of silly things did (or do) you do with your kids?
Til next time,
Todd
