Mark for Mayor

One of our city councilmen, Mark Rodriguez is running for Mayor. He had a meet and greet announcement event at our local park this afternoon. So of course I brought my camera and took some pictures.
I was initially a little conflicted when our current mayor announced he was not running for reelection, and two council members announced their candidacies the next day. I’ve actually known Carolyn, the other candidate, longer, but I have met Mark a few times. He’s always out in the community advocating for our citizens and their causes. He’s also active in social media groups answering people’s questions and providing information. I feel good supporting him.
His mom was there at his table with the ballot signature petitions. She’s an educator in San Antonio, and I had a good chat with her. Super nice lady!

I don’t know if these guys are Mark’s friends, or just interested citizens like me who showed up for the event. In any case, I found this scene compelling (and the B&W version will be my picture today for that series).
There was free food from Gunny’s Barbecue. I wish I had payed more attention to that detail on the flyer, and not already eaten right before I went to the event. From what I could see though, the who did eat it were really enjoying the food.
You know I can’t resist taking pictures of other people who are taking pictures. This young man records mostly video at events around town, and is volunteering to get footage for the campaign. He introduced himself. But rather than get his name wrong, I’ll just fall back on my “I’m horrible with names” excuse. Again, though, another super nice guy.
This was a true family event, as there was even a bouncy house for the kids!
