Saw an Owl, Hiked up a Waterfall, and Witnessed a Job Interview
Todd's World Weekly - Vol. 2
By far the highlight of my week was photographing this great horned owl. I have a hard time believing it myself, but I’m pretty sure this is only the 2nd owl I’ve ever photographed an owl in the wild. Maybe I need to get out more at night.
Otherwise, it was a relatively unexciting week. We did go out to get some pictures of the frozen waterfall on Saturday. I enjoyed sitting and watching the shadows change as the sun rose, but ultimately I didn’t like any of the new pictures as much as the original image I had captured in that spot when the water was running.
I’ve also been trying to get a few shots of the Jeep when we go to hiking locations. I did a little experiment this time. A similar shot with both my Pixel phone and my Canon camera with a 17mm lens attached.
Can you tell which is which?

I started to get a little more into the groove with my B&W photo project, and I decided to give each photo its own individual post, rather than putting seven shots all together in one weekly post. These were my favorites, but you should check them all out.
For some reason, protests were on my mind, so I wrote a post about some of the protest photos that I’ve taken over the years.
Then finally, a conversation with my teenaged daughter had me thinking about how popular TV shows end, and how their fans are often left disappointed.
That about sums up things in my world. Here are are a few other posts, pictures and authors I found interesting
Around Substack this week:
Love these reflections:
I haven’t had kids in the potty training stage for a long time now. But probably the mostly widely seen picture I’ve ever taken was on that topic, so it still catched my eye. If I had little ones, the eastern European methods sounds like something worth trying:
Finally, I subscribed to a healthy eating publication called The Secret Sauce. Some of the recipes looks delicious … and I like that the full recipe and direction is shared, but then you can upgrade to paid if you want the macros and a printable .pdf (most recipe sites I just click away and never visit again when they try to make me pay to see the actual recipe). Anyhow, this looks like something I will be making soon:
So how was your week?
Til next time,
Todd
