She Got Another Piercing
B&W 2026 14/365
My 17 year old daughter now has 4 piercings and a tattoo (the jellyfish on her leg). Today she got “snake bites” in her lower lip. There was one big difference between today and our previous trips to 12th Planet Tattoo …
She paid for this one herself !!!
The 1st piercing she got was her eyebrow, which she talked me into letting her get when she was still technically 16 (it was like 2 months before her birthday). It was a reward for passing all of her finals in her Junior year of high school.
I’ve willingly gone along with this (and her mom in Texas was surprisingly agreeable too) on the theory that of all the ways she could rebel, this one’s relatively minor, and at least peripherally leaves me some control. Especially now that she can pay for it herself, I’m basically just there to sign the release form until she turns 18 later this summer.
She’s a straight A student who has a job, and I think more money in her savings account than I do right now. So I think she’s earned the freedom to make some of these type of decisions on her own.
The only one I told her I won’t sign for is the tongue. If she wants that pierced, she’ll have to wait until she’s 18 and doesn’t need dad to sign the form.
Your turn:
What are some things that you let your kids do that you might not have been 100% comfortable with, but it was a battle you chose not to pick?
Til next time,
Todd
